Tip of the Week - March 20, 2018 - Pick a Safe Spot to Meet Online Sellers/Buyers
/If you’re selling or buying items through online classified ads, you should consider meeting the other party in a very public and well-lit place. Some police departments are now partnering with “OfferUp” and displaying “MeetUp Spot” signs in their parking lots. This gives buyers and sellers a trusted location to talk about the merchandise and possibly complete the transaction.
“It’s always a good idea to meet at a mall, a grocery store, or a police department parking lot,” said CSLEA Foundation Chairman Kenny Ehrman. “Bring someone with you, let people know where you are meeting the buyer or seller, and if something doesn’t feel right, leave.”
OfferUp is teaming with local businesses and police stations to create community MeetUp Spots. Each MeetUp Spot is designated as a well-lit, public spot that has surveillance cameras.
