We are in a new, challenging and unprecedented time in California and the country, but one thing that hasn't changed is scammers looking to prey on our vulnerabilities in order to make a quick and easy buck.

"There are people trying to get you to open your email and click on links that will give them access to your private information, people calling asking for donations to bogus fundraisers and people knocking on doors claiming to be inspectors, please don't buy into any of this," said CSLEA Foundation Chair Kenny Ehrman.

· Always ask for credentials from strangers who come to your door claiming to be a company, utility or government representative.

· Don't open emails from sources you don't know, and if you do, don't click on any links.

· Don't answer phone calls from unfamiliar numbers and consider blocking them, especially if no voicemail was left.

"We all want to be helpful during this trying time. Protect yourself and your family, investigate everything and by all means, check on those you know who are most vulnerable, to this virus and to scammers!"
