Tip of Week - April 03, 2019 - Preventing the Theft of Your Vehicle’s License Plate

Is there nothing thieves won’t take from you? The San Luis Obispo Police Department is reporting a recent rash of license plates stolen from vehicles. To put the brakes on this type of theft, owners can install anti-theft license plate screws (yes there is such a thing, search the internet) which might make it harder for thieves to remove your plates.

Other suggestions include parking your vehicle in a locked garage, in a well-lit area or an area with motion detector lights, in a well-populated, well-travelled area.

And know your license plate number so you can report it, if your plates are stolen! You’d be surprised how many people don’t commit their license plate number to memory.
