Tip of the Week - December 28, 2015 - Don't Let Your Trash Tip Off Burglars To What's Inside Your Home

As you set your garbage can curbside for collection, give some thought to what's inside it.  Do you have boxes in the trash from Christmas gifts that advertise you have a new big screen TV, a new iPad, a new wireless speaker system, a new computer?   With trash cans packed so full, their lids extend high, exposing the contents and  anyone driving by can get a glimpse at what's new inside your home.  Likewise, if you are disposing cardboard boxes at recycling centers, be sure to remove your address from any mailing labels.

"It's always best to play it safe, but particularly this time of the year," said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Foundation Chairman Kenny Ehrman.  "It's a little extra work, but not nearly as much work as filing a police report and filling out insurance claim forms. Also, it never hurts to have photos of the new big ticket items you may have in your home."
